Frequently Asked Questions

Where did you get this idea?

I was idly ranking people (dishing out a hefty amount of 1's to the really stupid pictures) when I noticed something: all the people who dressed in really sluttly clothing, or the guys who had their shirt off were all being ranked highly, regardless of the quality of their photograph; it's almost as if people judge their fellow human beings based solely on their physical appearance! Heavens no!
So with that in mind, I started purposely rating people poorly if they took a bad picture. My justification? I am not attracted, sexually or otherwise, to stupid people. Someone who thinks it's cute to make a bunch of grainy, black-and-white photographs into a collage, with pink letters superimposed over the top done in Microsoft Paint, is a moron. Since everybody else in the world is also a moron, I think it's my duty to rate these people poorly, as a kind of wake-up call.

But what about cases where people take good pictures and they still get a 1?

I'm also not terribly attracted to women who wear lots of makeup, or who obviously spend way too much time thinking about, and administering to their appearance. There's a difference between taking pride in the way you look, and obsessing over it. So if a girl happens to take a professional-looking photograph, but she wears enough crap on her face to make her look like some kind of android, she's probably going to get a 1. The same goes for the guys that I rate on the site; the obvious players don't rate as highly as the guys who look like they might have some personality.

Isn't that counter-productive? I mean, you're doing the same as others, judging people by their appearance. You just have different standards from other people. What makes you so high and mighty, huh?

Next question.

So what do you look for in a girl?

In a girl, I look for someone who is engaging. I know it's tough to judge a book by its cover, but in my experience, the girls who feel they need to dress provocatively and pose sexily aren't that interesting once you get to know them. The girls who smile sincerely, are well-groomed without being obsessive, and who take their pictures in a comfortable environment are probably much more fun to be with.

So what do you look for in a guy?

I don't spend a lot of time looking for things in guys; I'm actually straight. I rate guys on my site for a couple of reasons:
1: That way it'll be fair to both sexes represented on the site.
2: I'm perfectly comfortable in noting which men are attractive and which one's aren't; you don't have to be gay to know that a man looks good. I know which guys I should be jealous of.

You're avoiding the question.

Ok then, I suppose what I'd look for in a guy runs along similar criteria to what I'd look for in a girl; someone's who's down to earth, not narcissistic about his appearance, and who looks like he enjoys a good laugh, rather than endless social posturing.

where be all da tranzveztites, yo? iz u a hatah???

I haven't come across many transvestites in the course of ranking people. When I find some, you'll be notified.

Do you prefer women who pose with cars, or power tools?

I prefer women who pose in what I consider their natural element. Somehow, women posing with cars and power tools seems out of place; contrived even. Those pictures all get 1's.

OMG u r SOOOOO cute!!!!!!1 i just hav 2 hav ur email address!

Okay, so maybe nobody actually asked me that question; still, if anyone wants my email address, here it is.

This is really wrong. These people put their pictures up for rating at HotOrNot.com, nothing else. There is no way in the world that this is even remotely acceptable. Take it down now.

I can understand the concern; however, I believe I'm justified. These people put their pictures up for public ranking. I am a member of the public. I'm doing what ever other person does when they click the little numbered radio button to see the next picture: I'm making a decision about that person's attractiveness, based on a biased set of factors. The only difference is that I'm documenting my thought process.

You know what I mean; these people did not agree to have their pictures hosted by you. On HotOrNot.com, they can take them down at a moments notice. Here, they cannot.

A valid concern; I have ways of removing a person from this site if they ask for it. I know I'm being a bit of a dick by doing this, but hey, this is the Internet. Still, not one to burn bridges, anyone who feels they've gotten a raw deal is free to contact me and ask me to take down the picture. That's my guarantee: if you don't want a profile up on this site, all you have to do is ask nicely, and off it comes.
